Through the combined efforts of the GNIAR Government Affairs, REALTORS® Political Action Committee and the Home Builders Association of Northwest Indiana, real estate brokers, builders and developers will now be able to promote open houses in the city of Crown Point in public areas.

The collaborative effort of these associations and city officials sought to develop a sign plan that will prevent sign clutter while simultaneously allowing real estate practitioners to market properties on the market.

City officials, including Mayor David Uran, Chief of Staff Keith Stevens and Councilman Bob Clemons, stated they recognize the importance of the housing market plays in the overall economy of the city and wanted to work with rather than against local real estate practitioners.

Special signage is now permitted for real estate brokers, builders and developers sponsored open houses which facilitate the sale of residential properties. The real estate broker, builder and/or developer shall be permitted to place a maximum of eight directional signs on public property to inform the public of the location. Each sign shall not exceed six square feet in gross area. Signs shall be allowed on weekends from Friday at 12 pm through Monday at 9 am the weekend of the open house event. The real estate broker, builder and/or developer shall be responsible for the removal of the signs.

Both associations urge members to adhere strictly to the guidelines as to not lose this privilege.
